Location:
Thornton Hall 331
Presenter:
Dr. Wolfgang Taube, University of Applied Sciences Furtwangen, Germany
Subject:
Computer Science goes Interactive New Media
Abstract:

The internet and modern interactive applications like games present new challenges for computer sicence: Not only the development of clever algorithms but even more the creation of a satisfying and productive user experience are key areas for computer scientists. With modern graphical equipment we have the tools for a rich interface at hand - now we only have to use them properly.

Interactive computing is a central concept that we still have to understand theoretically and practically. The state of an interactive system is influenced by numerous factors and must be represented internally and - this is the difficult part - also presented in a form comprehensible to the user.

In this talk I will present some ideas about the concept of interactivity and support this by some recent examples.

Bio:

Wolfgang Taube graduated from the Technical University Berlin as a Diplom-Informatiker (M. Sc. in Computer Science) and received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Bremen. Since 2001 he is a Professor for Computer Science in Media at the Department of Digital Media at Furtwangen University.

He has developed award-winning Web applications in Germany with a special focus on database integration.

His current research interests focus on the concept of interactivity to create better human computer interaction.
