Graduate Seminar Requirements
Dear Graduate students:
This the policy on Graduate Seminar (formerly PERNET) requirements, effective Fall 2004:
Attending ten graduate seminars over the first two semesters of your graduate studies is a mandatory requirement for graduation in SFSU's Computer Science Graduate Program. You will need to satisfy this requirement before filing your ATC.
The Graduate Seminar Series:
Graduate Seminars are given by distinguished speakers, by invitation only. Graduate Seminars were started long ago by Prof. Dujmovic, and was formerly known as PERNET. The Graduate Seminar series has been very successful and has brought excellent recognition to our department. You can check the list of previous speakers here:

Graduate Seminars are always scheduled Wednesdays 4:30 p.m. in TH 331 in Fall and Spring semesters. Out of respect for our guest presenters, your punctuality is expected and required. The door will not be opened for late arrivals.
Benefits of attending the Graduate Seminar series for our graduate (and undergraduate) students are many:
- It provides exposure to the latest state of the art research topics and to leaders in hi-tech
- It offers motivation and ideas for theses and projects
- It often creates ideas and contacts for employment
- It exposes students to professional presentations
We strongly recommend that graduate students satisfy the Graduate Seminar requirement in the first two semesters while in classified status, since it will help them decide on a culminating experience project.
The Graduate Seminar requirement is fulfilled as follows:
- Give Niki your student ID card promptly upon arrival at 4:30, TH311
- Your attendence will be recorded in your file and your student ID returned at the end of the presentation.
- If you lave early, you will not get credit for attending that seminar.
Graduate students under the OLD graduate program (enrolled before Fall 2004) who still need to satisfy the Graduate Seminar requirement and need 1 unit for PERNET:
Please attend all Graduate Seminars in any one semester and sign up for a 1 unit 899 with Dr. Petkovic to satisfy the graduate requirements.
