| How to use the PCs and Servers in the Computer Science Lab |
| |
Step 1:
- If you are new at SFSU, and do not have an SFSU account,
you may get a form to apply for an account online at http://www.sfsu.edu/~doit/forms.htm
- Follow the instructions, and you will obtain your SFSU libra account shortly.
|
| |
Step 2:
- You now have an SFSU account. If you are taking a CSc
course that uses the CSc labs (Science 252 and 254),
your instructor will request an account for you on the thecity server.
- You will need a thecity account to use the machines in the Sci 252/254
labs. Your thecity account will have the same login name as your
libra account.
- You will also need an iButton Comkey to get into the labs. Please
follow the instructions at http://cs.sfsu.edu/research/ResearchLabs.htm

Step 3:
- Now you have your thecity account, and are in the CSc labs,
sitting at an open PC.
- If you are using your thecity account for the first time,
log on to the PC with your libra login name. For password, enter your entire SFSU Student ID
123456789 your password is 123456789.
- Please DO NOT change your password! Changing your password will block you access to your folder on thecity.
- To check your current print quota, check out http://cs.sfsu.edu/research/ResearchLabs.htm#quota

Step 4:
- On the PC desktop, look for "SSH Secure Shell Client". Double
click on it. A window will open up. Hit return to connect.
- You will be prompted for a hostname (enter thecity) and a
user name (enter yours). Click CONNECT, and you will be prompted
for your password. Enter it correctly, and you'll be in
the thecity shell.
- Note that thecity is only accessible via ssh (secure shell), not
telnet. If you'd like to connect to the libra server, you may
use either ssh or telnet. On PCs, telnet is probably easiest
to use through a web-browser; fire up Internet Explorer or any
browser, and type telnet://libra.sfsu.edu as the url.
- If there are any problems, please email support@cose.sfsu.edu.
Good luck!
